We had a super busy week in Colorado visiting with over a dozen families, met the Flowering Hope Foundation's team, watched Jason Cranford make the newest batch of Haleigh's Hope pediatric CBD oil, traveled almost 600 miles between Boulder, Colorado Springs, and South Park in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Our small team heard many moving stories and the struggles families face when they leave their home state desperate and with a lot of hope that CBD oil will help their kids. In most cases, the oil does indeed help. But we are finding that resources are scarce and times are still tough - the oil isn't a magic bullet and money is tight, tight for most families. On top of that, they aren't going home any time soon.
Directly after Colorado, I spent a very quick 26 hours in Toronto to film a very exciting event: HerStory - the history of women advocates at the center of the medical cannabis movement. Panelists Hilary Black, Theresa Kozak, Jenna Valleriani, Erin Prosk, Mandy McKnight, Lisa Campbell and host Donisha Prendergast moved a packed hall at the Gladstone Hotel with their stories of risk, sacrifice, devotion and thoughful insight into their almost two decades in this fight to legitimize cannabis as medicine. The event was put on by Tweed and Bedrocan, two of Canada's licenced medical cannabis producers.
